Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp provides Sadio Mane injury update after Senegal pick star

LIVERPOOL boss Jurgen Klopp has admitted he wants Sadio Mane back in action sooner rather than later.

Mane has been out of action since injuring his hamstring earlier this month, with the former Southampton star facing six weeks out.

However, the Liverpool forward has been named in Senegal's upcoming World Cup qualifiers next month.

And, speaking ahead of the Reds' clash with Tottenham on Sunday (4pm), Klopp said he wants him fit but cannot protect him from picking up further injuries down the line.

"Sadio is still in rehab," he said.

"He is indoors. He is not in any exercises outside. I can imagine they (Senegal) feel the pressure a little bit.

“If he is fit earlier I would be really happy. But nobody knows at this moment.

“If he’s fit, we cannot hide him. we can do nothing to keep him.”

Meanwhile, speaking earlier this month, Paul Ince said Mane was Liverpool's most important player ahead of Philippe Coutinho.

"Sadio Mane being out for six weeks is bad news for Liverpool,” he told PaddyPower News.

Jurgen Klopp has opened up on Sadio Mane's Liverpool injury

“He's a much bigger loss than Philippe Coutinho would be.

"Mane is much more involved in the game from start to finish. Without him, Liverpool's side is a lot weaker - he's vital."

Liverpool are in dire need of a Premier League win, having won just once since the end of August.

However, they go into Sunday's clash high on confidence after thumping Maribor 7-0 in midweek.
