Angry Man Utd fans come up with conspiracy theories after club announce deal on Twitter

MANCHESTER UNITED fans have reacted in horror after the club announced they had given Scott McTominay a new contract.

McTominay, 20, has been at Manchester United since he was five and is a product of the Academy system.

The midfielder made his first-team debut away to Arsenal at the end of last season and featured in the Champions League in the 1-0 win over Benfica on Wednesday.

But fans who have watched the youngster at close quarters are not impressed - and have come up with conspiracy theories over why a deal has been done.

Those include the fact he's only been signed because he's tall and that he's there to fill a quota. Others, meanwhile, are fuming that Angel Gomes has still not signed a contract.

Gomes became the youngest player to make his United debut since the great Duncan Edwards last season at the age of 16 - although he has so far not signed pro deal.

Reacting to United's annoucement on Twitter, one fan wrote: "Gets a new contract on basis he's 6"3 and not his footballing ability he's not on gomes' level."

Another tweeted: "I'll save you some time, sell him to the championship. Thats all he'll ever amount to."

A fellow follower said: "Won't even be here in 2021, just quota filling."

"I'm 6 foot do you think mourinho would sign me," said one, while another wrote: "He's absolutely g**h #fellainiwithoutanafro."

On signing McTominay, boss Jose Mourinho said: "I am delighted Scott has signed a new contract, he is one of our young players that has gone from strength to strength.

"He made his Premier League debut at the end of last season and made his Champions League debut this season. I had no hesitation in promoting Scott to the first-team squad last month as we have total belief in him."

But other fans fumed: "That’s not Angel Gomes lads. GIVE HIM A CONTRACT."

"next, gomes plzzz... did you guys see him #FIFAU17WC @agomes_47," said a fellow supporter.

While another disagreed with Mourinho and said: "i watch all Utd's games and U23 games, I have never seen anything from this lad that suggests he's good enough for utd!"
