Tiemoue Bakayako has revealed why he wears the no.14 shirt

Bakayoko, 23, followed the likes of Geremi, Andre Schurrle and Claudio Pizarro in taking 14 after signing on at Stamford Bridge this summer.

The former Monaco man has worn 14 since he was a kid, where he grew up on the Paris streets in poverty.

And the number, he says, is a tribute to the arrondissement in which he grew up in France’s capital city

The midfielder told Sky Sports: "The number 14 is important to me because it represents the neighbourhood where I was born.

"I've always worn that number ever since my Rennes days where I started out as a professional.

"I think about my neighbourhood and the people who've helped me along the way to where I am now, playing for a very big club.

"Now I'm at Chelsea and I hope to stay her for a long time but you never know what the future might hold.

"It's a number that's important to me and I'll try to wear it wherever I am if possible."

Bakayako grew up in Paris to Ivorian parents. He could have played for Ivory Coast but chose France after Didier Deschamps handed him his first cap in March.
