ROBBIE FOWLER believes Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain should go back to basics to make more of an impact at Anfield.

The former Arsenal star scored his first goal in a Liverpool shirt earlier this week in the 7-0 rout against Maribor.

But he has been limited to cameo appearances from the bench having started just one game for Liverpool - the EFL Cup defeat to Leicester last month.

Before moving to Liverpool it was reported he wanted to play in central midfield but Jurgen Klopp has used him more as a winger as part of the front three.

At 24 years of age, Oxlade-Chamberlain is expected to be reaching his peak but injuries in his last couple of season at Arsenal coupled with heavy criticism seem to have knocked his confidence.

However, Liverpool legend Fowler believes the England international can rediscover his best form under Klopp.

"Look he's had a bit of a tough start if we're all being honest," Fowler told Goal.

"He's obviously a good player, he's played for a good Arsenal team and he's playing for good Liverpool team now.

"But I think he looks a real confidence player.

"I think he needs to go back to basics that got him to the level he was at and once that confidence grows, I think we'll see a much better Oxlade-Chamberlain.

"I think playing under Jurgen Klopp, he will get that confidence out of him."
