Henderson rallying call

19:45: Jordan Henderson has urged Liverpool to respond quickly after they were beaten 4-1 by Tottenham.

“I think we didn’t start well at all, so it’s about being ready for the game - everybody, I know Dejan [Lovren] got took off early in the game but it could’ve been anyone of us that came off because it wasn’t good enough,” the captain told BBC Sport.

“We know there are things to improve and things to change quickly. I’ve got every faith that we can [do that] because we’ve got a fantastic team. But we need to work on a few things and change it quickly.

“I know we’ll do everything we can to change it because that’s the nature of us as a team. We’ve got to keep working hard. I’m sure a lot of criticism will come our way and deservedly so, we can’t keep doing it, we’ve got to change it quickly, otherwise you lose games and you lose them badly like we did today.

“So we need a reaction quickly, we need to bounce back on the training field and in games, but like I say, I believe we can.”

Schmeichel slams Klopp

17:44: Peter Schmeichel has criticised Jurgen Klopp’s treatment of Dejan Lovren after he took him off after 30 minutes against Tottenham.

Schmeichel said on Super Sport: “It’s very important to underline that he never ever said anything to him and he’s killed that player.

“And in fact it hasn’t helped, they are still defending like it’s their first time ever.

“The way they defend today and have been defending all season is so naive and Jurgen Klopp needs to take responsibility.

“What he’s done now is put all the responsibility over to Lovren.

“He will now be in the headlines for this, and that’s really unfair.

“That should be the manager.”

Klopp on Wijnaldum

16:25: Jurgen Klopp has revealed Georginio Wijnaldum was left out of the Liverpool squad to face Tottenham with a knee injury.

Klopp said Wijnaldum was ruled out after running out of time to recover from his knock.

“Gini got a knock on his knee yesterday. It’s nothing serious but very painful,” Klopp said.

“We couldn’t do it overnight.

“It’s not a big thing but the time was too short from yesterday to today, so he’s not even involved in the squad.”

Deulofeu/Coutinho swap

14.55: Jurgen Klopp will demand Gerard Deulofeu in exchange for Philippe Coutinho when Barcelona return for the Liverpool star, according to reports in Spain.

Don Balon claim Ernesto Valverde has asked for the signing of Coutinho to be forced through by Barca chiefs in January.

And the Reds will reportedly accept - but only if they can have Deulofeu as a makeweight in the deal.

The report says Jurgen Klopp is attracted to the Spaniard’s speed and Valverde is said to be open to the idea of selling.

Can on Juventus

12:29: Liverpool midfielder Emre Can says it is “an honour” to be linked with a move to Juventus as he continues to stall on a new deal.

“It's always an honour to receive an offer from such a renowned club, but currently I am only focused on the season with Liverpool,” Can told German newspaper Kicker. “My agent takes care of the rest.

“The Premier League is just a really cool league, the most interesting in the world, but you must respect other big clubs and leagues.

“You never know what will happen. And I don't know what Jurgen Klopp plans.”

Coutinho should have gone

10.15: Philippe Coutinho should have been sold to Barcelona in the summer, according to Anfield legend Mark Lawrenson.

“Prices have gone mad and I would have sold him in the summer," he said.

"I just think if you are getting £120million for a footballer you take it - because he could fall over tomorrow!

"They could then have got two or three players to replace him, and think he'll go possibly in January."

Jermaine Jenas explains what Liverpool is missing

Klopp tips Tottenham

09.30: Jurgen Klopp believes Liverpool’s opponents Tottenham are serious title contenders this year, despite Manchester City’s early dominance.

“Yes, Spurs are title contenders,” Klopp said.

“They were last year. They were two years ago. Why shouldn’t they be this year?

“They have great quality, and they don’t have to make many changes to their squad because the players are at the best age.

“They have a fantastic manager and they know it’s a generation that can win titles for Tottenham.”

Fowler's advice for the Ox

08.45: Robbie Fowler has told Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain to 'get back to basics’ if he is to have a successful career at Liverpool.

“Look he’s had a bit of a tough start if we’re all being honest,” Fowler told website Goal.

“He’s obviously a good player, he’s played for a good Arsenal team and he’s playing for  a good Liverpool team now but I think he looks a real confidence player.

“I think he needs to go back to basics that got him to the level he was at and once that confidence grows, I think we’ll see a much better Oxlade-Chamberlain.

“I think playing under Jurgen Klopp, he will get that confidence out of him.”
