The Argentine legend met his countryman Mauricio Pochettino before the game at the home of football - before taking a seat in the stands to watch the match.

The visit left Spurs boss Pochettino, who shared a dressing room with Maradona at Newell's Old Boys, delighted as he bid to beat the Reds for the first time in his managerial career.

Appearing on Sky Sports, Pochettino said: "I saw him now a few minutes ago. It was amazing to see him again.

"I was his team-mate in Argentina. He was my idol, a great personality, for me the best player ever in football."

Discussing what it would be like for the likes of Harry Winks to play in front of Maradona, Henry said: "It'll be fantastic. I think he can do it again.

"He was very good the other day against Real Madrid away from home but can he stay in the team?

"Can he have a long season or even two or three?

"I have seen Tom Carroll, Ryan Mason in the squad and then they left.

"That's the next thing for him. We've seen him raise his game for one or two but can he do it for a whole season?"
