EVERTON hero Leon Osman believes David Moyes would be an ideal replacement for Ronald Koeman but is perhaps not a suitable long-term solution.

Everton sacked Ronald Koeman today, parting ways with the Dutchman after just 16 months in charge at Goodison Park.

David Moyes is currently second-favourite with the bookies to take over, having previously spent over a decade with the Toffees between 2002 and 2013.

Burnley boss Sean Dyche is also said to be in the running, as is former Bayern Munich manager Carlo Ancelotti and youth coach David Unsworth.

However, former Everton midfielder Leon Osman thinks Moyes would be an ideal replacement but questioned is suitability long term.

“I think Moyes would be able to do a good job immediately. He knows the club inside and out,” Osman told Sky Sports.

“Whether he would be a long-term candidate, I don’t know what the chairman is looking at.

“Is he looking at immediate results or someone who has a real pedigree of winning trophies?

“Or are they looking at someone like David Unsworth from the academy, who really knows the club and who can bring the young lads through and inspire an Everton core?

“It’s really interesting to see what Farhad Moshiri and Bill Kenwright are thinking right now.”

The Everton board chose to part company with Koeman after a string of poor results which have seen the club slip into the relegation zone.

However, Osman thinks the Merseyside outfit would be an attractive prospect to a number of managers given the recent influx of high-quality players.

“There’s a reason why things haven’t quite gone well but Everton will be a really good club for someone to take over,” he added.

“They have some fantastic players, a real set-up behind them and good money invested into the club.

“Okay you may need a transfer window to get in a few bodies that a new manager would like but Everton are a really desirable club that people will be after.”
