Man Utd news: Players are confused with Jose Mourinho’s tactics, says ESPN pundit

MANCHESTER UNITED players are confused at Jose Mourinho’s change in tactics in recent weeks, according to ESPN pundit Alejandro Moreno.

Pearce: Mourinho using tactic by publicly criticising players

Mourinho set his Manchester United side up defensively at Anfield nine days ago and came away with a 0-0 draw.

On Saturday he saw his side beaten for the first time in the league this season by promoted outfit Huddersfield 2-1.

The Portuguese was was critical of his team afterwards for their performance.

But Moreno says it is no surprise they struggled against Huddersfield, with Jose Mourinho switching his approach from game to game.

It’s not as simple as just to say ’today we are going to attack more than we are going to defend’

Alejandro Moreno on Man Utd boss Jose Mourinho

“You see what the potential of a team can be and when you time and time again set a team in a defensive posture, now you go to Huddersfield you are supposed to be the team that carries the pace of the game, that has the onus of having to create chances,” he said of Manchester United.

“Well, hold on a second, you’ve asked us for the last couple of weeks to be defensive.

“So the mindset has to change, the approach has to change.

“Now attacking players need to be attacking, creative players now have to be creative players.

Man Utd news: Jose Mourinho's tactic changes are confusing his players, says Moreno

“But you have asked them not to do that before and now you’re asking them ‘hey, don’t be predictable, you know what, be quick with the ball’.

“Wait a minute, last week we were different, this week we are something else.

“It’s the mindset of a player that changes from going from a defensive posture team to being an attacking team.

“It’s not as simple as just to say ’today we are going to attack more than we are going to defend’.”
