Everton manager: Contact made with former Borussia Dortmund boss Thomas Tuchel

EVERTON are eying former Borussia Dortmund boss Thomas Tuchel to succeed Ronald Koeman, according to reports.

Dortmund manager Tuchel leaves days after winning Cup final

Koeman left his post at Everton manager yesterday, following a nightmare start to the Premier League season.

The Toffees spent big in the summer but, after just two wins from their opening nine games, Koeman has been axed.

Express Sport understands former manager David Moyes is not expecting to be approached over the job, while Burnley's Sean Dyche has flirted with the idea of taking the reins at Goodison Park.

But the Mirror claim that Tuchel, who has been out of work since leaving Dortmund in the summer, has emerged as Everton's chief target.

The 44-year-old left his post after falling out with club chiefs.

However, that has not deterred Everton with the Toffees already making contact with Tuchel about taking over.

Yet the Mirror say Tuchel is in no rush to apply for the Everton post.

He is supposedly mindful that the Bayern Munich job could be vacant at the end of the season, with Jupp Heynckes only taking over temporarily.

Meanwhile, speaking today, Koeman released a statement thanking fans for their support during his 16 months in charge.

"I would like to place on record my thanks to the players and staff for all of their work and commitment during my 16 months as Everton manager," he said.

"I would like to thank Bill Kenwright, Farhad Moshiri and the Everton board for the opportunity to have managed a great club, and to the fans as well for their passionate support for the club.

"Naturally, I am disappointed at this moment, but I wish the team good luck in the future."

David Unsworth has been appointed as Everton boss on a temporary basis, and will take charge of tomorrow night's Carabao Cup clash against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.
