Arsenal News: Jack Wilshere row pushing Mesut Ozil towards possible Man Utd transfer

ARSENAL star Mesut Ozil could reportedly join Manchester United because of a shirt number row with Jack Wilshere.

Leon Osman: Ozil leaving Arsenal would benefit Wilshere

Ozil's Arsenal career seems to be winding down with the Germany international's contract expiring at the end of the season.

Manchester United have emerged as a shock destination for the player, with Ozil supposedly keen on reuniting with former Real Madrid boss Jose Mourinho at Old Trafford.

And the Manchester Evening News claims the Ozil is indeed hellbent on linking up with Mourinho at Manchester United at the end of the season.

But, bizarrely, Jack Wilshere is behind the player's wish to leave Arsenal for a new challenge elsewhere.

MEN say Ozil wants to wear the No10 shirt currently occupied by Wilshere, who has worn it since Robin van Persie departed in 2012.

And Arsenal's failure to bow to his demands have prompted him to consider a move away.

Barcelona and Real Madrid are also two destinations the playmaker has in mind if he decides to leave Arsenal.

And that spells bad news for clubs in Italy, with Inter Milan previously being credited with an interest.

Meanwhile, United old boy Mikael Silvestre thinks Ozil would not last long at Old Trafford.

Arsenal News: Mesut Ozil could join Manchester United after a row with Jack Wilshere

"I think he would have to change his attitude," he told beIN Sports.

"I think it's mainly when the team lose the ball. The first few seconds in reaction - that's when the coaches want you to get up and try to recover as quickly as possible.

"Be that man to block and try to stop your opponent.

"And his transitions sometimes, he looks like 'okay we lost the ball now and I've got to run back now because I'm Arsenal', but sometimes it doesn't look like he is interested, so at United he wouldn't last long - especially with Jose."
