ARSENAL and Manchester City could reportedly be made to replay their fourth-round Carabao Cup ties.

The Premier League giants were level with Norwich and Wolves respectively after 90 minutes last night.

And by that point they’d both used two of their three regulation substitutes.

Carabao Cup rules mean teams are allowed to use a fourth substitute once extra-time gets underway.

Arsenal brought on youngsters Josh Dasilva and Joe Willock in extra-time, with City introducing Leroy Sane and Kyle Walker.

However, suggestions have emerged that Arsenal and City may have broken Carabao Cup rules by making two replacements after full-time.

Carabao Cup Rule 10 reads: "Each team is permitted up to seven substitutes of whom not more than three may take part in the match.

"Where any match goes to extra-time each club will be permitted to use an additional sub (in extra-time only)."

The rule implies only one substitution can be made during extra-time.

But referees Andy Madley and Kevin Friend allowed the pairs of extra-time swaps without any fuss.

Norwich apparently questioned the fact Arsenal had brought two players on in that period though.

The Sun claim a Football League probe has been launched which could see Arsenal and City’s victories thrown out.

The Carabao Cup has been embroiled in several controversies so far this season

That situation would mean their fourth-round ties would have to be replayed at a later date.

The substitution confusion is the latest controversy that the Carabao Cup has been embroiled in.

The second-round draw saw Brentford, Ipswich and Charlton handed away ties having believed they were at home.

The third-round draw, meanwhile, was held in China at 4.15am UK time and took almost an hour to complete.
