Tottenham boss surprised Redknapp with his team vs West Ham with Man Utd next on Saturday

Pochettino made seven changes from the starting XI in Tottenham’s 4-1 win over Liverpool on Sunday, but saw his side let slip a two goal lead to lose 3-2 to Slaven Bilic's side.

But there were only three players, Juan Foyth, Danny Rose and Ben Davies, who did not feature at all against Liverpool.

Redknapp expected Mauricio Pochettino to rotate his side more than he did, thinking the Carabao Cup would be low on the manager’s agenda.

But having seen tonight’s team, he believes it is clear the Argentine is desperate to win his first silverware at the club, and Spurs’ first since 2008.

He’s got a big game against Manchester United at the weekend but it hasn’t really deterred from his team

Jamie Redknapp on Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino

“I would have said it wouldn’t be that important to them and Pochettino (before tonight),” Redknapp said on Sky Sports.

“But having looked at the XI he’s picked, it shows you he is looking at this tournament, competition, and taking it very seriously.

“He’s got a big game against Manchester United at the weekend but it hasn’t really deterred from his team.

“Everything has gone so well for Mauricio Pochettino at Tottenham, the progression of the team, how they’ve improved, improved individual players.

“But the only thing missing has been a trophy and that’s what you want.

“You’re going to go into a new stadium next year, how good would that be if they could get any sort of trophy?

“To see so many of the players who played at the weekend play today, and with such a big game against United, I am surprised.

"But do you know what? I’m pleased.”

Spurs are level on points with second-place United and both teams sit behind league leaders Manchester City.
