Man Utd news: Jose Mourinho is facing a big problem - Rio Ferdinand

RIO FERDINAND has claimed that Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho is under pressure to win the Premier League title this season and Manchester City are causing him a big problem.

Parker: Manchester United are expected to attack at home

The Red Devils have gone five years without winning the English top flight - or even finishing inside the top three.

Mourinho was backed heavily by United’s board in the summer, splashing out over £140million on the likes of Romelu Lukaku, Victor Lindelof and Nemanja Matic.

However, they are five points adrift of league-leaders Manchester City.

And Ferdinand indicated that Mourinho's job may no longer be tenable if he fails to bring home the silverware this season.

He’s gone out and invested heavily, very well, but now he’s got to go and produce.

“Once you’re a Manchester United player, that’s pressure that comes with it,” Ferdinand told the Metro.

“The history suggests that you win titles and they’ve not done that for a number of years now.

“The fans want that, the fans have given Jose Mourinho that little bit of time, the club have as well.

“He’s gone out and invested heavily, very well, but now he’s got to go and produce."

Ferdinand also highlighted the main obstacle in Mourinho’s path.

“I think the problem that he’s got is that Manchester City are very talented and strong as well,” he added.

“I believe it will be a battle of the two Manchester clubs.”
