Liverpool takeover: Tom Werner issues huge update on rumours of £1.5billion bid

LIVERPOOL chairman Tom Werner has strongly denied speculation the club owners have rejected an offer of £1.5billion.

Businesswoman Amanda Staveley bids for Newcastle United

Reports circulating in the Middle East this week suggested a consortium led by rumoured Liverpool fan Amanda Staveley was involved in negotiations with Fenway Sports Group regarding a possible takeover.

Dubai newspaper The National claimed PCP Capital Partners offered £1.2bn up front that could potentially rise to £1.5bn.

The extra £300m would reportedly depend on Liverpool’s performances in the Champions League.

But Werner has strongly refuted those claims and insists there is no truth to the rumours.

“We have better things to do than batting down rumours about negotiations with Ms Staveley,” Werner told the Liverpool Echo.

“However, there's no truth to them.”

Staveley has also been linked with buying Newcastle in recent weeks with Mike Ashley putting the club up for sale.
