Arsenal made Turan offer

14:01: Arsenal made a bid for Barcelona midfielder Arda Turan during the transfer window and was on the verge of joining the Gunners, according to Turkey’s national team boss Mircea Lucescu.

“I spoke to [Ernesto] Valverde, Arsenal made Arda an offer,” Lucescu told TRT Sport.

“Arda was on the verge of joining Arsenal this summer but it did not go through. ‘Galatasaray wanted him but it did not happen, same with Monaco.

“Arda is going through a tough time.”

Wenger receives backing

10:15: Arsenal owner Stan Kroenke has backed Arsene Wenger to get the Gunners firing on all cylinders.

“We always evaluate, and it’s fair to look at all the factors involved,” Kroenke told the Daily Mirror.

“But when you make decisions like that, you are weighing lots of different factors, but you hope that you weigh them correctly and come out with the right decision. I think we did.

"It’s easy to change coaches and people do it all the time. But the hardest thing is to replicate success and remain competitive.

“You have to approach it with clear-headedness, calmness, thinking for the long term rather than the short-term.

“An easy answer is it's easy to do something. It’s harder not to do something.

“Arsenal is a great club – it’s been here for 130 years. We talked earlier about what a great club it is.

“When you have someone that passionate, when you get one who has really demonstrated that level of excellence – a good character – do you say: ‘Hey, we should get rid of him or we should make a change’?”

Ozil told to join Manchester United

08:00: Mesut Ozil is expected to leave Arsenal in January with the player's contract expiring at the end of the current campaign.

But Manchester Evening News say Manchester United want him to wind his contract down.

The Red Devils are among the clubs pursuing the Germany international.

And United want him to sit tight before bringing him to Old Trafford in the summer - and have supposedly told him as such.

Arsenal not budging on Sanchez

07:40: Alexis Sanchez nearly left Arsenal for Manchester City in the summer.

And The Sun say there is a chance the Chilean could be sold in January.

However, Arsene Wenger has made a bold decision on the 28-year-old.

The Frenchman is willing to let him go for free at the end of the campaign unless City pay £30million for his services.

Merson says Wenger should have left Arsenal

07:20: Arsene Wenger should have stepped down as Arsenal manager three years ago, according to Paul Merson.

And the former Gunners star would have loved to see one of Antonio Conte, Jose Mourinho or Jurgen Klopp take the reins.

"He runs the club, he runs everything," Merson said on Sky Sports show, The Debate.

"He could have sat there three years ago and said 'these four managers coming up, they have left their football clubs, they're world class managers, go and get one'.

"They're not even managers who have been sacked, they've just left their club.

"Conte, Klopp, even Mourinho, world class managers.

"He should have said at the time, thinking of the club, go and get one of them.

"They won't come up all the time."
