Liverpool news: Jurgen Klopp says he has been helping Dejan Lovren after Tottenham loss

LIVERPOOL boss Jurgen Klopp says he has been helping Dejan Lovren after his poor display against Tottenham last weekend.

Burley: Lovren and Moreno should never play for Liverpool again

Lovren endured a shocking afternoon as Liverpool were thumped 4-1 by Tottenham at Wembley last weekend.

Fans have been quick to criticise the former Southampton star, who continues to struggle for consistency at the back.

But Klopp says he has been helping the Croatia international, saying he is not the sort to just sit around and just do nothing.

“You have no idea how it feels," he said ahead of the Reds' Premier League clash with Huddersfield tomorow.

"I’m not the kind of person to stand around with a smart phone rather than helping.

“When I think about Dejan there are a lot more positive things than negatives ones. Everything is ok. He’s had good week.”

Meanwhile, Liverpool legend Phil Thompson thinks Klopp needs to take Lovren out of the firing line.

"I would have to take [Lovren] out of the firing line," he told the Liverpool Echo. "After what he went through at Wembley, I think it's too raw at the moment to play him again so soon.

"Jurgen will have to make changes. If he doesn't have faith in Ragnar Klavan then he has to go with Joe Gomez in there alongside Joel Matip.

Liverpool news: Jurgen Klopp has defended Dejan Lovren

"We have a run of winnable games coming up and we have to make sure we're more solid at the back.

"[But, with regards to Lovren,] you can never disregard any player because you never know when you will need him.

"I still believe we sold our best defender in the summer when Mamadou Sakho went to Crystal Palace. He was a warrior and a fighter.

"People say he looked ungainly but you knew what you got with him."
