Liverpool News: Paddy Power TROLL Reds over Virgil van Dijk ahead of Huddersfield clash

LIVERPOOL have been mocked for their failure to sign Virgil van Dijk in the summer by the mischievous Paddy Power ahead of their Premier League clash with Huddersfield this afternoon (3pm).

Van Dijk reveals the toughest striker to play against

Liverpool tried to sign Van Dijk from Southampton back in the summer with Jurgen Klopp earmarking the Dutchman as a priority target.

However, the Saints threatened to report them for tapping the player up - in a move that ultimately ended Liverpool’s interest.

Their failure to secure his signature has proved costly, with Klopp’s men shipping 16 goals from their first nine games so far.

And, never one to let such an opportunity go amiss, Paddy Power have erected a Van Dijk valuation board RIGHT NEXT to Anfield.

Fans are currently flocking to the ground ahead of this afternoon’s kick off.

And Liverpool fans will be greeted by the sight of one of the players they want to the most.

The billboard, which is on a wall overhanging the stadium entrance, shows Van Dijk’s asking price increasing by the second.

Paddy Power will also adjust the price depending on how Liverpool get on against David Wagner’s side.

Spokesman Paddy Power said: “Liverpool could do with a reliable sweeper, so obviously they turned to Van Dijk.

“But, rather than the spoonful of sugar Klopp hoped for, they had a taste of their own medicine as Southampton resisted – and what’s happened since has been defenceless. Quite literally.

Liverpool News: Paddy Power are up to mischief once again

“So we thought we’d help Liverpool’s infamous transfer committee out by giving them a market valuation of their top target for January – however, if they lose to Huddersfield this afternoon, they might as well stick another zero on the end.”

Furthermore, they are also offering odds on Van Dijk’s next club.

Liverpool remain favourites at 3/1, with Pep Guardiola’s high-flying Manchester City next-priced at 12/1.

Arsenal and Chelsea are at 20/1 with Manchester United given odds of 25/1.

They also have Van Dijk 11/10 on to join Liverpool when he eventually leaves Southampton - though the Reds are priced at 6/1 not to sign a defender when the transfer window reopens in January.
