The Blues trail league-leaders Manchester City by nine points with 10 games gone.

But Hazard believes that Chelsea have enough quality to launch a serious title defence and close the gap on Pep Guardiola’s side.

The Belgian’s first league goal of the season wrapped up all three points on a rather dominating evening at the Vitality Stadium.

"The season is long, you never know what can happen,” Hazard said.

“They are top and play well with a lot of goals, but we have a lot of games to play, we will see at the end of the season."

Chelsea had a good few chances to extend their lead through the match with Alvaro Morata missing the best opportunity in the first half.

But it as at the other end which Antonio Conte’s side look much improved as they kept their first clean sheet in seven games.

"[It was a] very good goal, important also,” Hazard added.

“When you play this kind of game you just need to win.

"We created a lot of chances but we didn't score, that's the problem, but we have three points and we move on.

"I think Thibaut [Courtois] needed this [result] for the confidence, but I think all the team deserve this, we did well defensively, offensively also."
