Man Utd News: Aston Villa and Leicester could end Michael Carrick’s Old Trafford career

MANCHESTER UNITED legend Michael Carrick is attracting interest from Aston Villa and Leicester, according to reports.

Carrick has been at Manchester United ever since arriving from Tottenham in the summer of 2006 for a fee of £18million.

In the time since the 36-year-old has established himself as an Old Trafford hero, winning five Premier League titles as well as the Champions League in 2008.

However, Carrick has found game time hard to come by this season with the veteran featuring just once - in the Carabao Cup victory over Burton Albion last month.

And the Sunday Mirror say the Manchester United stalwart is wanted by Aston Villa, Leicester and West Brom.

Carrick is facing a huge decision over his future at the end of the campaign.

The England international could consider calling time on his career.

It is said, however, he is determined to stick it out at United until the end of the season.

Yet the Mirror say that has not stopped Villa, Leicester and West Brom monitoring his situation.

Meanwhile, speaking in September, Mourinho attributed Carrick’s lack of game time to competition for places.

"(Sergio) Romero played the Europa League final, which was the game of the season for us and he is not playing," the United boss said.

Man Utd News: Michael Carrick is a Manchester United legend

"Ander Herrera was player of the season and is not starting matches.

"That's life in big clubs.

"We gave him a contract because we think he is a good player, an important player, he is just in a team where I think in this moment (Nemanja) Matic and (Marouane) Fellaini are in the best form that I have ever seen them.

"I never saw Matic or Fellaini play so well, so he is in a team with these two guys playing absolutely phenomenal, so for Carrick and Ander it's just patience because that time will arrive and they will be important players for us for sure.

"That's a team, that's a squad, we can only play with 11 guys."
