That is the view of pundit and former Arsenal midfielder Stewart Robson.

Manchester United beat Tottenham 1-0 thanks to a goal from substitute Anthony Martial.

But it was the decision to bring Martial on for Marcus Rashford which angered some United fans, who booed the change by Mourinho.

After the game the Portuguese gave a ‘shush’ gesture to a camera in response to the fans’ criticism.

Robson does not think the way Jose Mourinho went about it was right, but says it was just to show fans he does know what he is doing.

“I think he knows he’s got to get the fans on side,” Robson told ESPN FC.

“I’m not sure that’s the best way of doing it.

“The crowd weren’t happy with the substitution that he made, bringing on Rashford and putting on Martial.

“They think that Rashford is the player that can open up defences and it wasn’t well received by the Manchester United fans.

“Of course Martial goes and scores and I think he’s just clarifying to fans ‘I know what I’m doing, keep calm, get behind the team and we will be okay’.

“They’re second in the table at the moment, they’re doing quite well.

“But I think the fans want to see them play with a little bit more creativity and a bit more panache at the moment.”
