Liverpool news: Jamie Carragher would be better than some Reds defenders, says Barton
Carragher retired from football in 2013 after 737 appearances over a 17-year spell with Liverpool.
He became a pundit for Sky Sports almost straight away and has continued in that role ever since.
Liverpool’s defence has come under severe criticism this season after a lack of investment in that position in the summer transfer window.
Barton has questioned why Carragher is not working in some capacity at Liverpool and claims, even at 39, he would do a better job than the likes of Reds centre-back Dejan Lovren.

“You look at the likes of Jamie Carragher,” Joey Barton told The Anfield Wrap.
“Phenomenal servant to Liverpool Football Club, knows Liverpool Football Club as well as anybody, given, literally given, blood on the pitch for his team, put his head in front of things, body in front of things.
“He’s taken up a role at Sky Sports… why? Why?
“He’s getting a lot of money, it’s less pressure, he can do two to three days a week, he can be a normal person, he can bring his kids up, but what are Liverpool losing?

“You tell me if Jamie Carragher’s in there now, in Liverpool Football Club, in a first-team capacity and he couldn’t help Liverpool’s defence defend better than what it is at the minute.
“I think he could defend better than some of your defenders currently.
"Because I think defending has a lot to do with your attitude towards defending.
