Chelsea news: Antonio Conte adamant Roma clash more important than Man Utd

ANTONIO CONTE has made a bold claim about Tuesday evening’s Champions League clash between Roma and Chelsea (7.45pm).

The Italian thinks that the Champions League tie with the Serie A outfit is more important than Chelsea's Premier League game against Manchester United at the weekend.

Chelsea top their Champions League group and would all-but guarantee progression to the knockout stages with victory at the Stadio Olimpico.

However, the Blues will need to avoid any hiccups which they suffered in the reverse fixture which ended in a 3-3 draw.

Domestically, Chelsea are four points and two places behind United.

The most important thing is to go game by game, tomorrow is the most important game.

Their title defence is looking increasingly unlikely as they trail league-leaders Manchester City by nine points.

But Conte has outlined where his priorities lie.

“There are two big games before the international break against Roma tomorrow and United on Sunday,” Conte said.

“The most important thing is to go game by game, tomorrow is the most important game.

“We have to try to put all our game in the right result. Then we prepare for another tough game in the league.”

Chelsea sit two points above Roma in their Champions League group, with Atletico Madrid a further three points behind.

A defeat would pull the group wide open again - something Conte is keen to avoid.

“I think our group is a tough group, with Atletico and Roma two really strong teams,” Conte added.

“To be at the top is very important, we are trying to face all competitions. In this week we went through to the next round of the Carabao Cup.

“For sure tomorrow it will be a really tough game and we must pay great attention. We are recovering important players and you know very well how important it is for me to have all the players available.”
