Morata joined Chelsea from Real Madrid in the summer for a fee that could rise to £70million.

The Spaniard has hit the ground running in England, netting six times in his first eight Premier League appearances.

Gerrard says he would have loved to have played with Morata in his playing career.

“He’s been brilliant,” he said of Morata on BT Sport.

“I’m a big fan, I would have loved to have played with him at some stage.

“He’s a dream for a midfielder, he runs in behind.

“Really clever movement in the box, very strong, he can come short or go long.

“He’s settled in very quick, he’s a big threat for Chelsea.”

Gerrard’s colleague and ex-Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand has also been impressed by what he’s seen of Morata.

Chelsea news: Alvaro Morata has impressed Rio Ferdinand this season

“What’s good about him is he scores a variety of goals,” Ferdinand said.

“He’s not just a target man who stands up there, he’s got very, very good movement, subtle when the ball’s wide.

“There you see him running past two or three players.

“He just ghosts into positions and that’s just a sign of a striker who knows what he’s good at and can get across defenders and cause problems in the box.”
