NEMANJA MATIC hopes Manchester United managed to please the supporters after their Champions League win over Benfica.

United to put themselves on the brink of qualifying for the knockout stages for the first time in four years.

An own goal from Mile Svilar and a late penalty from Daley Blind ensured United top Group A with maximum points from four games.

And Matic, who spent over two years at Benfica, hopes the performance went some way to putting a smile on the faces of fans who have been vocal in their criticism of late, particularly of Romelu Lukaku.

“It was good to keep winning and a very important three points for us,” Matic said.

“I was there two-and-a-half years and they do not deserve to have any points.

"We have to be focussed until the end, we have to fight in the last two games and will go out to win them."

Elsewhere, Chelsea slumped to a 3-0 defeat away to Roma.

United travel to face Antonio Conte's men next in the Premier League on Sunday (4.30pm).
