Chelsea were thrashed 3-0 away at Roma last night in the Champions League, costing them top spot in Group C.

The defeat means winning the group is now out of the Stamford Bridge club’s hands with just two games remaining.

Former Roma man Rudiger appeared to be at fault for the second goal as he failed to deal with a long ball in the build-up to Stephan El Shaarawy’s strike.

And the Blues defender has revealed Antonio Conte was not a happy man in the dressing room after the game.

When asked if Conte was more disappointed or angry, Rudiger told beIN Sports: “Both, it’s normal, it’s normal for him.

“For everyone, this was an important game and we lost it.

“It’s out of our hands, of course the coach is angry and disappointed – everyone has to be.”

Chelsea were poor defensively against Roma and conceded inside the opening minute after Stephan el Shaarawy latched onto an Edin Dzeko knock down.

El Shaarawy then benefitted from some laps defending from Rudiger to double the hosts’ lead.

And the centre-back bore the brunt of the criticism from the BT Sport studio after the match, with Rio Ferdinand laying into the Germany international.

“That’s appalling defending," Ferdinand said.

"He doesn’t know where he is on the pitch.

"If you’re not sure where you are, clear the ball. Don’t let it bounce, clear it.

"What I think I’ve seen today with Chelsea, defending diagonal balls in and around the back three, they don’t know where they are all of them."
