Chelsea news: Antonio Conte disrespected Roma last night, says Gerrard

That is according to BT Sport pundit and Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard.

Chelsea were beaten 3-0 by Roma in their Champions League Group C clash in Rome.

With N’Golo Kante still yet to return from a hamstring injury, Conte chose Cesc Fabregas as the midfield partner for Tiemoue Bakayoko.

Earlier in the group against Atletico Madrid at Wanda Metropolitano, Conte played three central midfielders and won 2-1.

Gerrard says Antonio Conte should have given Roma that same level of respect.

“Cesc Fabregas doesn’t cover ground like Kante,” he said.

“He’s obviously exceptional on the ball, he can pick out the killer pass. 

“I think Conte’s disrespected Roma today.

“I think he showed Atletico Madrid fantastic respect by just going (Eden) Hazard behind (Alvaro) Morata and having a lot of bodies behind the ball, packing the midfield. 

“Today he went with a very, very bold team selection and it’s backfired on him.”

Chelsea still need just one win from their last two games to qualify out of Group C.

Atletico are yet to win in their four matches, drawing twice to bottom side Qarabag.
