Chelsea host Jose Mourinho’s side on Sunday (4.30pm) in a vital game for both sides' title hopes.

The Blues go into the game off the back of a comprehensive 3-0 defeat to Roma in the Champions League last night.

Conte opted to go with just two central midfielders in Rome in the shape of summer-signing Tiemoue Bakayoko and Cesc Fabregas.

N’Golo Kante could return to the squad for Sunday’s clash after returning to training following his hamstring injury.

And Ferdinand believes Antonio Conte must pack the middle of the park against the Red Devils, like he did when Chelsea beat Atletico Madrid 2-1 in September.

“I think that it effects the players,” Ferdinand said after Chelsea's loss to Roma.

“You’re talking about what effect it has, I think a player will know ‘I’m going in there in a two-man midfield against potentially three players who are very experienced and very good at keeping the ball and we’re going to be at a disadvantage from the word go’.

“I think that’s where he’s got to get that confidence back into the players.
