Tottenham secured an historic 3-1 win against Real Madrid at Wembley to put them in pole position in Group H.

And the England international thought Spurs were deserved winners and was not surprised by the flattering scoreline.

"It was a fantastic display by us,” he told BT Sport.

Dele Alli hilariously slams 'bitter' Arsenal fan in mean tweet video

“We knew if we stuck to our game-plan and were solid at the back then we'd get chances.

“We're very happy with the result.”

And the 21-year-old admitted he was not surprised by Tottenham’s dominance, especially after their 1-1 draw at the Bernabeu last month.

“I wasn't surprised,” he added.

"We couldn't believe how much space we had at the Bernabeu. We don't want to just compete with these teams we want to beat them.

“I’m happy to get two goals but more importantly it was a win."

Christian Eriksen grabbed Spurs’ third of the night before Cristiano Ronaldo snatched a consolation in the 80th minute.

Elsewhere in the group, Borussia Dortmund were held to a draw with Apoel Nicosia with both teams now tied on two points.
