Cristiano Ronaldo offers excuse after Real Madrid Champions League loss to Tottenham

CRISTIANO RONALDO has launched a staunch defence of Real Madrid and insists they were unlucky against Tottenham.

Ronaldo and co endured a wretched evening last night at Wembley as they crashed to a in the Champions League.

The loss capped off a poor four days, as they went down 2-1 to Girona in La Liga on Sunday.

While Ronaldo lamented the recent results, he thinks there is nothing wrong with the players’ attitudes and he is confident things will turn around soon.

“It's normal when you're losing and things aren't going the way you want,” Ronaldo said.

“You have to support your teammates. It was a real blow to lose 3-1 today, and in my opinion it's not a fair reflection of what happened on the pitch, because their first goal was offside. 

“It was the same in Girona, their second goal was offside. 

“They're things out of our control, but what we can control is our attitude, run hard, battle, and that's not been lacking in either of the last two games.

“When you don’t win people look for faults. I'm not like that, I talk with my teammates to their face. 

“The team is confident, we know that we’re having a bad run, but things will change.”

Real Madrid, who are currently second in Group H, will guarantee qualification to the knockout stages of the Champions League if they win their next group game against APOEL Nicosia on November 21.
