Jack Wilshere has a month to prove he's worth another contract at Arseal

Wilshere is out of contract in the summer and his future remains up in the air.

He is set to miss out on a place in the England squad for the friendlies with Germany and Brazil today - with Harry Winks keeping his place after impressing for Tottenham.

Wilshere is yet to start in the Premier League for Arsenal this season but has impressed in the Europa League when given the chance.

He was sent to Bournemouth on loan last term and did OK before breaking his ankle near the end of the season.

The 25-year-old has shown glimpses of his old self in the European games and is expected to play against Red Star Belgrade tonight and could be involved against Manchester City on Sunday.

And Arsene Wenger wants his future wrapped up before the end of the year.

“I said many times that [Wilshere’s future] would be decided in December,” the Gunners boss said.

“I wanted to give him six months not to think about that and see where we go.

“I see him more as a player who can affect the game in the final third than a box to box player.

“I see him more as somebody who has a quick response, quick reactions in the final third and the quality of the pass in the final third.

Jermaine Jenas hails Jack Wilshere's impressive performance

"He turns well the game forward, he can chip a little ball, he can pass people on the short space. That’s why I think the system suits him well.”

Wenger’s comments suggest he is battling Mesut Ozil for a place in the side with the German also out of contract in the summer and linked with a move to Manchester United.

Ozil has also struggled to impress this season but played well in the 5-2 against Everton.

He will be the focus of attention again on Sunday as Arsenal visit league leaders Manchester City.

Arsenal are currently fifth after 10 games and are already nine points behind City.
