Arsenal news: Dani Alves reveals why Barcelona always beat the Gunners in Europe

PARIS SAINT-GERMAIN defender Dani Alves says Barcelona ‘loved’ facing Arsenal during his time at the Nou Camp.

Barcelona were the dominant force in Europe during Pep Guardiola’s reign, winning the Champions League twice during his four-year spell in charge.

In 2010, they ran riot against the Gunners with Lionel Messi scoring four goals in a famous 4-1 second leg win.

The two teams also met the following year where, although Arsenal won 2-1 at the Emirates, Barcelona again prevailed.

And Alves has now claimed Barcelona were always up for matches against Arsene Wenger’s side because they knew they could play them off the park.

“Well, we definitely liked to face Arsenal,” the Brazilian told Four Four Two.

“They had a similar football style to ours, and this sometimes helped to facilitate our way of playing.

“We were drawn against them several times with a positive outcome. They were a team we dominated and had a control over.

“Every time we faced Arsenal, we’d have a good result or good performance.”

Alves also thinks the Barcelona team that won the 2011 Champions League final deserves to be regarded as one of the best teams of all time.

The Catalan giants put Manchester United to the sword courtesy of goals from Messi, Pedro and David Villa.

And Alves thinks they were just too good for Sir Alex Ferguson’s team.

“Talking to several football experts, they haven’t seen another team as incredible as that Barcelona,” he added

“These are people who’ve been following the game for a long time and they say they’ve never seen such a thing.

"We represented the definition of a collective game. We ate, drank and breathed football, so moments like winning the Champions League were rewards for all our efforts.”

Alves is currently in his first season at PSG since leaving Juventus in the summer.

The 34-year-old won 23 trophies during a eight-year stint at Barcelona between 2008 and 2016.
