There had been speculation Southgate would recall Wilshere when he announced his squad for the friendlies against Germany and Brazil.

The midfielder has impressed for Arsenal in the Europa League and Carabao Cup this season and provided an assist in his first league appearance for Wenger's side in 14 months in the 5-2 win over Everton.

And Wenger reckoned Wilshere deserved a place in Southgate's experimental squad but the 25-year-old was left out and will not add to his 34 caps on this occasion.

However Southgate says Wilshere wouldn’t get in the squad unless he was is playing regularly for Arsenal.
