Klopp hails Salah scouts

13:30: Jurgen Klopp has revealed the efforts Liverpool’s recruitment staff made to sign top goalscorer Mohamed Salah.

He told LiverpoolFC.com: “We were sure he could help us. Michael Edwards, Dave Fallows and Barry [Hunter], they were really in my ear and were on it: ‘Come on, come on, Mo Salah, he’s the solution!’,” he said.

“When you have 20 players on the table, different players, it’s difficult to make an early decision.

“But we all were convinced about it so could make the early decision so we could really get him.

“He’s a fantastic person, a nice lad and a really good football player.”

Griezmann to Man Utd...

10.50: Atletico Madrid players and fans want to cash in on Antoine Griezmann - after growing ‘tired of his games’.

Griezmann flirted with a move to Manchester United in the summer, at one point claiming there was a 6/10 chance he would make the move.

But the transfer collapsed after Griezmann chose to stay following the Atletico’s transfer ban being upheld.

He signed a new deal which means he has a relatively low buyout clause and has been linked with moves to Manchester United, Barcelona and Real Madrid.

And Atletico players are beginning to turn on him for his poor performances this term.

The 26-year-old has scored just twice in La Liga and once in the Champions League this season.

Atletico are down in fourth and are on the verge of being knocked out of the Champions League.

Griezmann has gone missing in big games and was poor against Chelsea in the defeat despite scoring from the spot.

And Don Balon claim his team-mates are fed up with him and think the club should cash him in if Manchester United are willing to pay £90m.

Real want Alli

07.30: Real Madrid are weighing up a move for Tottenham and England star Dele Alli, according to reports in Spain.

Alli helped Tottenham beat Real in the Champions League at Wembley last week.

And the 21-year-old impressed to the point that he is now viewed as someone with ‘every attribute to fit in at the Bernabeu’.

Florentino Perez and director Jose Angel Sanchez are said to be personally keen on a deal for the Tottenham ace.

And Marca claim the interest has progressed over the last few days and he is now a genuine transfer target for the club.

However it does come with complications with Tottenham renowned for being tough negotiators.

Barcelona swoop for Man Utd starlet

06:00: Manchester United are concerned Angel Gomes could be snapped up by Barcelona.

The England under-17 starlet became the youngest player to feature for United’s first team since Duncan Edwards.

But, according to The Sun, United fear they could lose their prized asset to Barcelona, who are reportedly quietly confident they can pull off a deal.

And last month, Gomes’ father Gil claimed the top European teams were keen to sign his teenage son.

Antonio Conte brushes off AC Milan links

04:30: Chelsea boss Antonio Conte has swept aside talk he is interested in becoming AC Milan’s next manager.

Milan are growing increasingly fed up with Vincenzo Montella, although he was spared the sack after their 2-0 win over Sassuolo on Sunday.

Conte saw his side beat Manchester United 1-0 yesterday at Stamford Bridge, and gave a terse reply when asked about his future.

He said: “Milan? Leave it out… We're trying to stay concentrated, because it's a tough run from here to the end of the season.

"I am only concentrated on Chelsea and purely want to do what is best for Chelsea.”

Barcelona face Coutinho issue

03:00: Barcelona could have to pay more than they planned for Philippe Coutinho with Juventus reportedly entering the race for his signature.

Barcelona failed with three bids to sign Coutinho in the summer transfer window, their highest being worth close to £120million.

Reports suggested Barcelona would be willing to up their offer to £130m next year but, according to Don Balon, could be drawn into a bidding war with Juventus.

It is claimed the Serie A giants are prepared to pay as much as £155m for the 25-year-old.

Liverpool’s shock David Silva swoop

01:00 Liverpool are plotting a move for Manchester City star David Silva, reports claim.

Silva’s current contract expires in 2019 and he has been locked in talks all season over extending his stay.

City are keen to offer their midfield schemer a new deal to keep their rivals at bay.

At present, Silva is not willing to budge on his wage demands, and he currently takes home around £160,000 a week.

But according to The Sun, Liverpool are also chasing a deal, with Jurgen Klopp not completely sold on Adam Lallana and sees Silva as a suitable alternative.

Conte unsure of Luiz future

22:35: Antonio Conte axed David Luiz from his team and warned Chelsea’s players, do it my way or you sit in the stand.

Conte’s reshaped team drove a huge hole in Manchester United title hopes thanks to Alvaro Morata’s 55th-minute header at Stamford Bridge - and eased the mounting pressure on the Italian after poor recent results.

Conte dropped Luiz after the midweek 3-0 Champions League thumping by Roma, and saw his team keep their second clean sheet in nine games.

Asked by a television reporter if Luiz - who had reacted angrily after being substituted three weeks ago - had a future at the club, Conte said: “I don’t know. He has to work really hard - otherwise they are on the bench or in the stand.”

Bilic latest

20:36: Slaven Bilic is still awaiting the West Ham board's decision over his future, Sky Sports claim.

West Ham suffered a 4-1 defeat to Liverpool yesterday, plunging the Croatian's future at the club in further doubt.

Sky Sports claim Bilic is planning to take training tomorrow with the club yet to inform him of their decision.

The struggling Toffees are also said to be keeping tabs on Preston left-back Josh Earl.

Bayern want Lewandowski back-up

17:00: Bayern Munich will look for a back-up option to Robert Lewandowski in the January transfer window.

However, sporting director Karl-Heinz Rummenigge admits finding a striker of the requisite quality will not be easy.

"The possibilities will be limited," Rummenigge told Sky Germany. "If you have a good player, you will not give it up or only for horrendous money.

"But we will not be ready and unable to spend horrendous money on a transfer."

Alcacer wants Barcelona stay

15:15: Barcelona forward Paco Alcacer insists he wants to stay at the club and play alongside Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez.

Alcacer scored twice to earn Barcelona a 2-1 win over Sevilla on Saturday.

Barcelona are understood to be considering selling Alcacer in the January transfer window.

But the Spaniard in adamant he doesn’t want to leave the Nou Camp.

"I am very clear about what I want,” the said after the game.

“And what I want is to continue working here and improve day by day with Luis and Leo.

“They are the best forwards in the world and I want to learn a lot from them.”

PSG star in Chelsea snub

14.55: Thomas Meunier has revealed he could have quit Paris St-Germain for Chelsea on deadline day.

The Blues were in the market for a right-back all summer and wanted Antonio Candreva.

They ended up nabbing Davide Zappacosta from Torino just before the transfer window shut.

Belgium international Meunier says he rejected the chance to head to Stamford Bridge.

"I could have joined Chelsea in the final day of the transfer window, but I didn’t want to," he told Eleven Sports.

Manchester City contract

14:13: Manchester City midfielder Fernandinho is set to sign a new contract at the club.

Fernandinho, 32, was thought to be on his way out of the Etihad.

Barcelona transfer blow

12:33: RB Leipzig have slapped an £89m price tag on Barcelona transfer target Dayot Upamecano’s head.

Barcelona supposedly want Upamecano as a replacement for veteran Javier Mascherano.

Bundesliga giants Leipzig aren’t interested in selling, claim BILD.

But Upamecano recently said he would be open to a move.

“The interest of the big clubs honours me, it's clear,” said Upamecano.

“But at the moment, only Leipzig counts. I have to work hard to reach my goals later.”

Hasselbaink on Chelsea plans

12:15: Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink believes Chelsea will be looking to sign players in January.

"Chelsea and all the clubs will still be looking to improve their squads, that is just normal," Hasselbaink told Express Sport.

"I think that's normal. And I think Chelsea is no different."

Real Betis eye Wilshere

11:33: Real Betis want to sign Jack Wilshere.

La Liga side Betis are said to be keen on landing the Arsenal midfielder, who is nearing the end of his contract.

Wilshere, 25, will be free to leave Arsenal for nothing in the summer but would likely want at least the same wage as his current £90,000-a-week pay packet in north London.

The Sun on Sunday claim Betis manager Quique Setien is an admirer of Wilshere, who has played just 13 minutes of Premier League football this season.

Mourinho wants Man Utd pay rise

11:27: Jose Mourinho wants a £3million pay rise on his Manchester United contract.

Talks are supposedly underway over fresh terms for the manager.

And the Sunday Mirror report he is chasing a mega pay rise after guiding United back into the Champions League.

Moyes to West Ham

11:00: Slaven Bilic could be sacked as West Ham manager by Tuesday, with David Moyes already in talks over replacing the manager.

Bilic is under pressure after Saturday’s 4-1 defeat at home to Liverpool.

West Ham are said to have contacted Moyes about taking up the role.

And Sky Sports claim Bilic’s future will be decided within 48 hours, while Moyes was supposedly at the game at London Stadium yesterday.

Leeds eye Rangers loanee

09:25: Leeds United are interested in Ranger loanee Declan John.

He is out of contract at the end of the season and Championship rivals Cardiff City could opt to sell in January, according to Football Insider.

The left-back position has proved problematic for Leeds since the departure of Charlie Taylor to Burnley.

Manchester United loanee Cameron Borthwick-Jackson has struggled for form and fitness while a recent suspension sidelined Gaetano Berardi.

That forced Leeds head coach Thomas Christiansen to use midfielders Vurnon Anita and Stuart Dallas at left-back in the defeats to Sheffield United and Derby County.

Man Utd cool Mesut Ozil interest

07:00: Manchester United have reportedly cooled their interest in Mesut Ozil.

The Arsenal star is out of contract at the end of the campaign and has been fancied to reunite with Jose Mourinho at Old Trafford, with the pair previously working together at Real Madrid.

Ozil currently takes home around £215,000 a week at the Emirates.

But according to the Sunday Star, United have concerns about the finances involved.

United chiefs, the report claims, feel a potential deal would be too expensive unless Ozil lowered his demands.

Arsenal and Tottenham battle for Leon Goretzka

05:00: Tottenham are set to challenge Arsenal for the signature of Schalke midfielder Leon Goretzka.

The 22-year-old has been continually linked with a move to Arsenal.

But according to the Sunday Mirror, Mauricio Pochettino’s recruitment team will step up their efforts to sign Goretzka.

The report also suggests that Goretzka, who is out of contract in six months’ time, fits the bill of the kind of player he wants at the club.

Arsenal worried about Aleksandr Golovin deal

03:00: Arsenal could reportedly lose out to Barcelona in a deal for Russian midfielder Aleksandr Golovin.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is a fan of 21-year-old Golovin, who has impressed in his early years at CSKA Moscow.

And Russian agent Sandor Varga has revealed in an interview that Wenger told him to track the player during the World Cup’s warm-up tournament last summer.

Yet Barcelona are also eyeing the player and Varga reckons Golovin could join either side.

Asked on the chances of Barca signing Golovin, Varga told Russian paper Sport Express: “Why not? I see great potential in him.

“This summer, I watched Aleksandr a lot at the request of Arsene [Wenger].”

Antonio Conte next job

01:00: Away from transfer news, Antonio Conte is set to be offered an escape route from Chelsea by AC Milan who are closing to sacking Vincenzo Montella.

Conte has endured a torrid early defence of Chelsea’s Premier League crown as the Blues are currently 12 points behind pace setters Manchester City going into today’s matches.

And the Champions League hammering in Roma last week only produced a heart-to-heart with his players but also a rare training ground visit from Roman Abramovich.

Express Sport understands Conte has got an uneasy relationship with Abramovich’s loyal lieutenants Marina Granovskaia and Michael Emenalo over the club’s transfer policy.

Milan have the financial muscle to tempt Conte back to his homeland that he openly admits to missing especially if things are turning sour in West London.

Sanchez decides his future

23:30: Karl-Heinz Rummenigge says Alexis Sanchez is not joining Bayern Munich.

Manchester City and Bayern are the two teams interested in landing the Arsenal star.

But Bayern CEO Rummenigge has admitted defeat in the transfer chase.

"I think Sanchez has already decided which club [to join], so I suppose that the door will be closed in January," Rummenigge told Sky Germany.

"That's not an issue, and he is no direct substitute for Robert Lewandowski as he is not a real centre forward."

Conte could go

22:00: Manchester United could cast Antonio Conte’s Chelsea future into doubt if the Red Devils beat the Blues on Sunday.

United travel to Stamford Bridge with Jose Mourinho hoping to avenge the 4-0 defeat they suffered there last season.

And the Times claim Conte could be ready for the sack if United beat his side in west London.

Slaven Bilic set for talks

20:31: Slaven Bilic says he doesn’t know if West Ham’s owners still back him after another defeat against Liverpool tonight.

"I have to talk to the chairman, we are going to discuss this defeat,” he said.

“It's not the first one, it's the second in a row in home. It is a very difficult situation for me.

"I always believe in myself, I wouldn't be here otherwise.”

Asked if he still has the club’s backing, Bilic said: “It's hard for me to talk about that now."

Barcelona eye Golovin

18:52: Barcelona could sign Russian midfielder Aleksandr Golovin ahead of Arsenal.

Agent Sandor Varga has revealed Arsene Wenger asked him to watch Golovin at the Confederations Cup.

Asked on the chances of Barca signing Golovin, Varga told Russian paper Sport Express: “Why not? I see great potential in him.

“This summer, I watched Aleksandr a lot at the request of Arsene Wenger.

“Once such clubs follow the player, it means there’s something there.

“Their scouting services don’t just watch them for fun.”

Pushed on where Golovin could go next, Varga conceded north London remains the most likely option.

He added: “It all depends on the manager.

“I have full faith in Wenger. If Aleksandr gets to play under him, he’ll be very lucky.”

Lacazette to Barcelona joke

16:03: Barcelona defender Samuel Umtiti has joked he would like to see Alexandre Lacazette at the Nou camp.

Asked if he’d like to see one of French duo Lacazette or Antoine Griezmann join the club, Umtiti told newspaper Ara: “I have a great friendship with them.

“Lacazette advised me well when Barca called me.

“Now he wants to win with Arsenal, although it would not be a bad idea to see him at the Camp Nou.”

Martial happy at United

14:40: Manchester United star Anthony Martial insists he is happy at the club despite being linked with a move away from Old Trafford last summer.

"At the moment, I’m happy, even if I could have done more, scored more goals and made more decisive passes,” Martial told MUTV. “But I’m happy.

"I think the difference is that last year I didn’t have a good season but, for now, things are going pretty well.

“I’m achieving my objectives and I hope to score a lot more by the end of the season.

"I must continue to keep up good performances for my club and if I’ve got the chance to start over there [for France] I will do the best I can."

Wenger on Sanchez

13:36: Arsene Wenger expects Alexis Sanchez to stay at Arsenal in January despite Manchester City being likely to make a move for him.

“You say everybody thinks City will come in for Alexis – I am part of everybody and I don't think he will go," Wenger said.

"Do City need him? They have to decide that. But we need him here.

“I expect him to be motivated against City but that is always the case. One thing you cannot fault in Alexis Sanchez is his motivation. When he plays for Chile, he plays with passion that is in South America.

“It's the same for [previous club] Barcelona and Arsenal. He is happy when he is on the pitch and that is all he wants.

"Was he close to joining City? No. But at the end of the day, close or not does not matter. It does not have any influence.

“What is important is that, when you are somewhere and you have the opportunity to give your best, that is what you must do."

Hasselbaink on Conte

10:50: Chelsea hero Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink has dismissed speculation suggesting Antonio Conte is under pressure at Stamford Bridge.

Recent reports have claimed Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich is planning to sack the former Juventus boss.

However, Hasselbaink believes Conte deserves credit for the work he's done in west London.

Hasselbaink told Express Sport: "I think the rumours are just ridiculous. I think he's been doing absolutely magnificent.

I think when you are a manager you always get ups and downs. He's had a lot more ups than downs.

"It's normal that he's going through a little bit of a difficult time.

"I would like to see him at Chelsea for as long as possible."

Liverpool eye Goretzka

09:30: Jurgen Klopp is keen to bring Schalke midfielder Leon Goretzka to Liverpool, according to the Mirror.

With Emre Can yet to agree a new deal with the Reds, Klopp is already looking at potential replacements.

Schalke are desperate to keep hold of their in-demand star but his head already appears turned with Premier League clubs showing interest.

Guardiola open to Sanchez move

09:01: Pep Guardiola has left the door open for a renewed move for Arsenal striker Alexis Sanchez either in January or next summer.

Guardiola had a £60million bid for the Chile striker rejected on deadline day of the summer’s transfer window.

Guardiola said: "He's an Arsenal player so his manager has to speak. We know the situation. The transfer window was open and now it's closed.

“He's an Arsenal player and so important for them. The talent he has and we have to try to control him on Sunday.

"The strikers we have already we are going to stay next season. Maybe we will add - we are going to decide. Next season we have to shape the team again.

“Last season there was a lot of changes because the average age was 28 or 29. Now we are a young team. But we'll buy players, we'll try to analyse and buy the right players."

08:22: Cesc Fabregas looks set to snub interest from Manchester United to stay at Chelsea.

The Spaniard has just over 18 months left to run on his current deal with the Blues but Jose Mourinho is thought to be keen on bringing him to Old Trafford.

However, Fabregas hopes to extend his stay at Chelsea and is set to begin talks with Chelsea over a new deal, the London Evening Standard claim.

Fabregas said: “Would I like to renew? Yes, because it is a club that has always treated me well.

“I believe the fans have a lot of respect for me and I have a lot of respect for them. I have given my all for the club for the last three-and-a-half years.

“This is a fantastic club for me and I have had a fantastic time here. Hopefully another contract will happen. Time will tell.”

United chase Raphael Varane

07:30: Manchester United have reportedly contacted Real Madrid defender Raphael Varane amid Los Blancos’ current struggles.

United failed to sign Varane during Sir Alex Ferguson’s time in charge, with the France international signing for Real Madrid instead.

However, with Los Blancos stuck in a rut, there is renewed talk about a move to Old Trafford at the end of the current campaign.

Real are well off the pace in La Liga, with their title defence already in tatters with Barcelona eight points clear at the summit.

And Spanish website Don Balon say Manchester United have made contact with Varane as they aim to secure a first league title since Ferguson’s retirement in 2013.

The report says Mourinho remains among his admirers.
