Man Utd news LIVE updates: All of the latest from Old Trafford

Sunday November 5

Ballack backs Blues

14.50: Manchester United travel to Chelsea today with three points in their sights.

Michael Ballack believes the Blues will come out on top at Stamford Bridge though.

"My prediction for #CHEMUN 1:0 for Chelsea," Ballack wrote on Twitter.

Neville message to Lukaku

13.50: Gary Neville says Romelu Lukaku must accept the criticism that comes his way.

"It was the Romelu Lukaku stuff that annoyed him [Jose Mourinho] last Saturday. There were a couple of moments where he didn't chase a ball down and the fans got on his back a little bit,” Neville told Sky Sports.

"I think when you are out there at Old Trafford you have to take criticism, there are 75,000 people there and they are not daft. You have to chase the ball.

"I said on commentary: 'A little bit of advice, chase the ball down, you have to chase the ball down'. Lukaku is a different kind of striker, he conserves his energy, he isn't somebody who hunts across the pitch.

"United fans loved Wayne Rooney in his prime or Carlos Tevez or Mark Hughes, people who are ferocious, all-action, all-energy, looking like they are sweating and toiling on the pitch.

"But you have different types of players who play in different ways. Ruud Van Nistelrooy for instance conserved his energy by working within the width of the box, but he always looked alert.

"Lukaku can sometimes look a little bit like he is drifting through games but then all of a sudden comes alive. He doesn't do a lot of sprinting but when he does it's powerful, strong, impactful."

Chelsea vs Man Utd preview

13.00: Chelsea must change their fortunes this season starting with a win at Manchester United, insists Alvaro Morata.

Chelsea have dropped off the pace in the Premier League title race and are labouring in Europe.

And £60million summer singing Morata is keen for Antonio Conte’s side to reverse their slump with another win today.

“Now we have the chance to play at home, against Manchester United, and we need to rediscover our winning mentality,” Morata told Chelsea’s website.

“It’s very important for us and the supporters.

“We will need all of them this weekend and we must try to create a difficult atmosphere for Manchester United.

“We are at home and we need to take the three points.

“They are a direct rival so it’s a very important game for us.

“We have a chance to forget the Champions League game.

“That’s another competition and if we go through to the next round nobody will remember one bad match for us.

“Now our focus is on the Premier League.”

Mourinho on Herrera

12.20: Jose Mourinho has joked about his relationship with Manchester United midfielder Ander Herrera.

"I am happy here – and I love my players," said Mourinho.

"You try to create a story because of my words after defeat at Huddersfield – but there is no story.

"I was not speaking with Ander Herrera any more? Ander Herrera is the kind of player I have to push him away because he wants to speak with me all the time!

"I don’t know where they get these kinds of stories. So yes, I am happy.

"It has just been a difficult week. Big matches, injuries, tiredness… but that is just normal."

Neville on Mourinho outburst

11.05: Gary Neville says Jose Mourinho is protecting his players by taking aim at Manchester United's fans.

Neville told Sky Sports: "As a player you would warm to the manager if he was protecting you.

"Everything Jose Mourinho does is for a reason. The reason he is taking on the fans a bit is because he is protecting the players, and the players will respond to that.

"It would be easy for Jose to say, 'The fans are fantastic, they turn up every week, they are entitled to do what they want because they pay their money'. That's the usual manager speak.

"To get a manager to go against that and say something completely different is, you could argue a high-risk tactic, but it's brave and his players will respond because he is defending them and he wants a better atmosphere for his players."

Ferdinand on penalty duty

10.10: Rio Ferdinand says Romelu Lukaku should have stepped up from the spot against Benfica on Tuesday night.

"I’d have liked him to have demanded he took one of United’s two penalties against Benfica last week," Ferdinand told The Sunday Times.

"[Anthony] Martial had the first, which was saved by Mile Svilar, then Mourinho wanted Daley Blind to take the second, but Lukaku should have grabbed the ball and faced the music afterwards.

"I wanted him to say: ‘I don’t care what the manager says, I’m the No 9 here, I need a goal, I need my confidence boosting, give me the ball’.

"You think Ruud [van Nistelrooy] would have given two pens up? Alan [Shearer]? Not a chance on this Earth."

Mata backs Lukaku

9.00: Juan Mata expects Manchester United team-mate Romelu Lukaku to get back on the scoresheet soon.

Mata said: "It’s only a matter of time when he scores.

"It is the same with [Alvaro] Morata. He was scoring a lot and now he isn’t. Strikers have different moments... It will not affect him.

"Obviously he wants to score and strikers are happy when they score. It helps their confidence. This kind of person doesn’t get angry, even when he doesn’t score, if the team wins.

"He has been playing at a very high level since he was very, very young. When we played together at Chelsea he was 18 or 19. He had been scoring a lot of goals in Belgium, so I think he is used to that and it is not a problem for him.

"He is a positive character and I think that helps him."

Hasselbaink expects United loss

08.05: Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink is tipping Chelsea to beat Manchester United this afternoon.

The former Blues striker told Express Sport: "I think it's gonna be a tight game.

"I think there's not gonna be a lot of goals. I think it will be a 1-0.

"Both teams are going to be quite cautious, that's how I see it.

"It's gonna be a very tactical game.

"I think it's gonna be a home win. A home, 1-0 win."

Chelsea beat Manchester United 4-0 last season

Martial makes Chelsea prediction

07.15: Anthony Martial thinks Chelsea will be out to beat Manchester United today.

Some pundits have predicted a draw is on the cards with both sides unwilling to risk defeat.

But Martial reckons Chelsea will be on the front foot at Stamford Bridge.

Martial told MUTV: "They [Chelsea] haven’t started as well as they did last year, but Chelsea is a big team and they’ll certainly try to beat us.

"Both clubs are really great teams so it’ll certainly be a difficult match, but the most important thing is that we try to come away with a victory at the end of the day."

Martial will be hoping to start against Chelsea having scored last weekend's winner against Premier League rivals Tottenham.

Ozil interest cooled

06.30: Manchester United have cooled their interest in Mesut Ozil, according to the Daily Star on Sunday.

The Arsenal playmaker will become a free agent when his Emirates deal expires next summer.

And he's been linked with a move to Old Trafford to reunited with his former Real Madrid boss Jose Mourinho.

The Daily Star on Sunday indicate United have been put off a move for Ozil though.

The Germany international is apparently looking to net a significant increase on his £210,000-a-week wages.

And United are unwilling to put him into their top salary bracket alongside the likes of Paul Pogba and Romelu Lukaku.

Mourinho wants pay rise

05.45: Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho is reportedly set to demand a £3m-a-year pay bump.

The Portuguese led the Red Devils to success in the EFL Cup and Europa League last season.

And they could move within two points of leaders Manchester City if they beat Chelsea this afternoon.

United are also on the verge of qualifying for the knockout stages of the Champions League.

The Sunday Mirror report Mourinho wants his reign to be rewarded by his wages being taken to £15m-a-year.

The former Chelsea gaffer is set to meet Ed Woodward to discuss an extension to his deal, which expires in 2019.
