ASTON VILLA owner Tony Xia has confirmed John Terry is unlikely to return from injury until the new year.

Aston Villa skipper John Terry suffered a broken metatarsal

Villa skipper Terry, 36, limped off in the 20th minute of Saturday’s 2-0 defeat to Sheffield Wednesday after breaking a metatarsal. 

When asked how long he would be sidelined for, Xia replied: “Eight to 10 weeks absence.”

Villa chief executive Keith Wyness has admitted Terry’s absence is a “huge blow” for the team.

Writing on Twitter, Wyness said: “Lost some momentum and JT injury a huge blow but we will go into the next Xmas stretch positive.”

Terry joined Villa on a one-year deal in the summer following his release from .

He had played every minute in the Championship for until being forced off against Wednesday. 

And Terry has admitted he is “devastated” by the injury.

Writing on Instagram, he said: “Devastated is an understatement to how I’m feeling tonight, after my CT scan I have just had news that I have broken my 5th metatarsal.

“I will be doing everything I can to get back fit as soon as possible.”

Despite losing to the Owls, Villa remain fifth in the Championship table.
