Chelsea boss Antonio Conte will sign players in January, says Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink

That's the verdict of former Blues star Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink as the winter transfer window approaches.

Chelsea have experienced a mixed start to the season having come in to it as defending champions.

Antonio Conte's side currently sit nine points adrift of Premier League leaders Manchester City.

And they've stumbled in their last two Champions League games - a 3-3 draw and subsequent 3-0 defeat to Roma.

Chelsea will be looking to bounce back from Tuesday night's humbling loss when they take on Manchester United today.

They will be assessing their squad and seeing where they can bring somebody in

They'll do so with a host of big-money signings among their ranks, including summer buy Alvaro Morata.

And Hasselbaink believes they could splash the cash again in the new year as they attempt to keep up with their rivals.

"Chelsea and all the clubs will still be looking to improve their squads, that is just normal," Hasselbaink told Express Sport.

"They will be assessing their squad and seeing where they can bring somebody in.

"I think that's normal. And I think Chelsea is no different."

Chelsea can leapfrog Tottenham into third if they beat United and Spurs fail to pick up three points against Crystal Palace.
