Chelsea news: Cesc Fabregas ran the game against Man Utd yesterday, says Ray Wilkins

Those are the words of ex-Chelsea and Manchester United star Ray Wilkins.

With Kante returning to the Blues starting line-up after recovering from a hamstring injury, Fabregas played slightly further forward than he has in recent weeks.

His performance helped Antonio Conte’s side to a vital 1-0 win against United, thanks to a fine header from Alvaro Morata.

Chelsea fan Wilkins was pleased to see his side, and Conte, back to their best, and says France midfielder Kante was a large reason for Fabregas’ starring role.

“Absolutely (he looked like the Antonio Conte of old),” Wilkins said on Sky Sports today.

“I couldn’t agree more, I’ve not seen him like this for a whole. The game was huge, it was massive.

“Kante came back in after a few weeks out, my goodness gracious me how fit is this young man?

“He’s incredibly fit, the ground he covered in the game was just incredible. Without him there is certainly a loss.

“You saw yesterday also, with him back in the side, the contribution of Fabregas was absolutely magnificent.

“I thought Fabregas was by far and away the best player on the pitch.

“When he took him off with 15 minutes to go, I thought that’s when Manchester United came back into the game.

“Fabregas was running the game.”
