Man Utd news: Man City ready to swoop for Juan Mata if star fails to agree new deal

MANCHESTER CITY are ready to exploit Juan Mata's uncertain Manchester United future, according to reports.

Manchester United star Mata remains a popular figure at Old Trafford, despite his performances dropping off in recent months.

The Spain international has been a regular ever since signing from Chelsea back in January 2013, helping the club win the FA Cup, EFL Cup and Europa League in the time since.

However, El Gold Digital say that Mata could be plying his trade at the Etihad Stadium next term.

Mata's contract has been allowed to run until its final year and, as of yet, Manchester United have been unable to tie him down to an extension.

The 29-year-old started the season on the right-hand side, helping United take the Premier League by storm in the early weeks of the campaign.

But Jose Mourinho has left the star out since, with the decision to utilise a 3-4-1-2 formation ultimately seeing Mata have to settle for a place on the bench.

El Gold Digital say City are ready to pounce and make him their replacement for David Silva.

Like Mata, Silva's time at his current club is winding down with the playmaker's contract also expiring in July.

Valencia are also interested in Mata but City's financial might could see them ultimately secure his signature.

Meanwhile, the United star wants the Red Devils to get their season back on track after the international break - saying he is as hungry for trophies as ever.

He said: "It's gone quickly to be honest. I made my professional debut when I was 18 in Real Madrid's second team, and then in Valencia in the first division when I was 19.

"So it's 10 years which went really, really quickly.

"Time flies, in general but, in football, even more. But I see myself young in a way, you know, my body feels good, my mind feels good.

"I'm hungry to keep enjoying this sport. So hopefully, all being well, I can be playing football for many more years.

"You just have to be professional - as I have been - and take care of your body, because your body is your tool to perform at the good level for many years.

"I think it is so important that you don't take anything for granted.

"You must wake up every day feeling lucky and privileged and go to training with the best motivation, because anything can change in one second.

"So don't taking anything for granted, even in football."
