Liverpool news: Reds and Arsenal most disappointing of the big six - Martin Keown

LIVERPOOL and Arsenal fans have been let down this season.

Roy Keane: It’s hard to figure out Liverpool at the moment

That's the opinion of former Gunners defender Martin Keown.

Liverpool came into the 2017/18 campaign with plenty of optimism that they could secure their first ever Premier League title.

But they are currently fifth, 12 points adrift of leaders Manchester City, and Jurgen Klopp has admitted a title challenge is not on the cards.

Arsenal, meanwhile, are a place further back than Liverpool and are potentially facing the prospect of missing out on Champions League qualification for the second successive year.

Liverpool and Arsenal in equal measure

Martin Keown names which of the Premier League's big six have been the most disappointing

Asked which of the Premier League's big six has been the biggest disappointment, Keown has offered his verdict on Liverpool and Arsenal's seasons so far.

"Liverpool and Arsenal in equal measure," Keown told the Daily Mail

"Liverpool have lost the plot at times in defence and Jurgen Klopp cannot be completely happy with how things have gone this season.

"With Arsenal, the speed at which they have fallen out of the Premier League title race has been hugely disappointing."

Keown then went on to vent further about Arsenal's start to the current campaign.

Jurgen Klopp and Arsene Wenger have led Liverpool and Arsenal to fifth and sixth respectively

"Arsenal were lukewarm against Manchester City. Where is the ambition? Where is the club going now?" Keown added.

"This summer, Arsene Wenger will be entering the final year of his contract while Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez look like they will be leaving.

"The club will be at a crossroads and it must be draining for the players.

"What will it take to play players like Jack Wilshere, who actually want to play for the club?"

Liverpool and Arsenal next go head-to-head in the Premier League when they face off at the Emirates on Friday December 22.
