The Reds had every right to go into the international break with confidence after their 4-1 thrashing of West Ham last weekend.

But they're still a mammoth 12 points adrift of Premier League leaders Manchester City after 11 games.

Liverpool will be looking to continue their winning run when they take on Southampton on Saturday November 18.

And Mignolet believes victory at Anfield can help Jurgen Klopp's side in their quest to reel City in and win their first ever Premier League title.

"City are doing really well at this time," Mignolet told Sky Sports. "They've got loads of quality.

"But like always the Premier League is a long journey, there's a long way to go.

"After that win at West Ham we closed the gap [on others]. In the busy winter period anything can happen.

Simon Mignolet has made 190 first-team appearances since joining Liverpool from Sunderland in 2013

"It's up to us to be challengers and that's what we'll try to do."

Mignolet also revealed how a team meeting helped Liverpool bounce back from last month's humbling 4-1 defeat to Tottenham.

"We had a discussion all together and I think we have responded well to that," he added.
