Arsenal news: Ian Wright has sent a strong message to the Gunners ahead of the Tottenham clash

Arsenal host Tottenham in the first north London derby of the season this Saturday at the Emirates (12.30pm).

Spurs come into the game four points clear of their rivals after 11 games of the Premier League season.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side finished last season above the Gunners, the first time a Spurs team had done so since 1995.

Tottenham have started this term strongly, especially in the Champions League where they have qualified for the last-16 and sit top of their group after a 1-1 draw and 3-1 victory over back-to-back winners Real Madrid.

Arsenal should be looking to beat Tottenham

Arsenal are 12 points off Manchester City at the top of the Premier League, with their hopes of a first title since 2004 seemingly already over.

But Wright says recent form should not affect the players and has told the Arsenal stars they must go into the game with confidence they can beat Tottenham.

“It’s always going to be very hard for me to utter those words (that Spurs are better than Arsenal),” Wright told Sky Sports.

“At the same time you can’t deny the fact that they are going places.

“There’s (been) a lot of progress at Spurs.

“I was just asked about the London derby and they’ve just beaten Real Madrid and beaten them convincingly and they were very impressive.

“The derby is something that our players should be going into thinking ‘I don’t care, I don’t care if they’ve got capes on with S on them’.

“They should be looking to beat them.”
