Barcelona step up Coutinho chase

Barcelona will reportedly look to hold a crunch meeting with Liverpool this month to push through a move for Philippe Coutinho in January.

Rumours are beginning to accelerate once again over Coutinho’s future with January’s transfer window fast approaching.

But recent reports have suggested Paris Saint-Germain could rival the La Liga giants for the Brazilian’s signature.

Coutinho is said to favour a move to Barcelona and has reportedly asked Liverpool not to listen to any offers from the French club.

And Mundo Deportivo claim Barcelona want to meet with Liverpool representatives to see whether a deal can in fact be brokered in January.

The report suggests Barcelona are keen to bring in Coutinho before the end of the season to help bed him in as Andres Iniesta’s long-term replacement.

With a host of Premier League stars in action, Gareth Southgate’s stars will be looking to build on their 0-0 draw against Germany on Friday.

Gillespie praises Salah

17:30: Former Reds ace Gary Gillespie reckons Mohmaed Salah has been a revelation at Liverpool this season.

“We’ve all been screaming for an out-and-out goalscorer. It comes in an unlikely figure in Mo Salah,” he told the Liverpool Echo.

“I didn’t think at the start of the season he would be a 20-goal-a-season man but if he continues the way he is going he could easily get to 20 or 25.

“There is always one player in the squad the fans idolise and the way Salah has started he could be the one.”

Coutinho 'perfect' for Barca

15.35: Liverpool star Philippe Coutinho would be a perfect signing for Barcelona, according to Brazil legend Ronaldinho.

Ronaldinho admits he would love to see his compatriot playing for his former side.

“He’s such a talented player wearing the shirt I wore for so many years,” he told Sky Sports.

“I believe the way he plays will perfectly suit Barcelona and would be delighted to see a player of such quality wear the shirt.

“I like the way Coutinho plays and the type of football he brings.”

Can interest confirmed

Giuseppe Marotta has confirmed Juventus’ interest in getting Emre Can on-board.

The Liverpool contract rebel will be free to leave Anfield next summer unless he signs a new deal.

And he’s been heavily linked with a move to Serie A giants Juventus for the past 12 months.

Allianz Stadium chief Marotta has now spoken out on the transfer speculation.

"Emre Can and Leon Goretzka are two players with expiring contracts and I don’t hide the fact that we are following them both, like many other teams,” he said.

Lehmann revelation

14.10: Jens Lehmann has revealed Didi Hamann tried to tempt him into quitting Arsenal for Liverpool.

"On the very evening when I was pondering this, Didi Hamann phoned me; he was playing for Liverpool. ‘Listen, Jens,’ he said, ‘We need a new keeper.’,” Lehmann reveals in his new book, The Madness Is On The Pitch.

"That was certainly tempting, the perpetually terrible weather in Liverpool aside.

"But since I had been listening to my own thoughts so carefully earlier, I declined. ‘No thanks, I want to keep trying to continue at Arsenal.’

"And promptly, as if it were a sign, Manuel Almunia played poorly against Bolton Wanderers the next day.

"After another defeat match against Manchester United two weeks later too, I found myself back in goal."

Clyne's message to fans

13.20: Nathaniel Clyne has provided an update after he underwent back surgery on Monday.

"Frustrating period for me but hopefully now things are on the up!” he said on Twitter.

"Had a small & successful op and working hard to get back on the pitch #YNWA."

Clyne has not played this term having picked up the problem in pre-season.

His return’s now been pencilled in for February at the earliest.

Mascherano to return?

12.20: Liverpool have been installed as the bookies' favourites to be Javier Mascherano's next club.

The defensive midfielder's Barcelona career is winding down with fresher options available to Ernesto Valverde.

And it seems a few punters fancy the Argentine to return to Anfield, where he previously spent three years.

Sky Bet have Liverpool priced up at 6/4 to be Mascherano's destination when he leaves Barcelona.

A return to River Plate, the club he started his career with, has been heavily touted too though.

Coutinho has Barcelona contract

11.10: Philippe Coutinho already has a contract on the table from Barcelona, according to reports from Spain.

Coutinho would become Barca’s second-highest paid player, only behind Lionel Messi and ahead of Luis Suarez.

Coutinho would take home around £22m a season on a four-and-a-half-year deal if Barcelona can convince Liverpool to sell in January.

Don Balon claim Barca insiders believe Coutinho will wear their colours sooner or later and are optimistic about getting a deal done in January.

Lallana steps up comeback

10.00: Liverpool star Adam Lallana will reportedly continue his fight to get back to full fitness today.

The England midfielder has not played for the Reds this season due to a thigh injury.

But he's set to feature in a full-size training game today alongside the likes of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Daniel Sturridge.

The Times reckon Lallana could be in contention to play against his old club, Southampton, on Saturday.

James Milner and Danny Ings are poised to feature in this afternoon's match as well.

£10m Solanke bill

09.05: Liverpool could be forced to hand over £10m for Dominic Solanke - according to The Sun.

The hitman joined the Reds from Chelsea this summer after running down his Stamford Bridge deal.

The Blues are due a compensation fee though due to his age.

Liverpool and Chelsea have failed to agree a price for Solanke and the matter will go to a tribunal.

And The Sun claim Chelsea are hoping to get £10m because of Solanke's senior England call-up.

Major Clyne update

08.20: Nathaniel Clyne is set to be out for even longer after having surgery on his back.

The England international has not played this term after picking up the injury in pre-season.

And he won't be back in action until the new year after going under the knife.

It is understood Clyne underwent corrective surgery on Monday.

And the right-back's return date has been pencilled in for February at the earliest.

Fans react to Mane injury

07.30: Liverpool fans are not best pleased by Sadio Mane's latest injury.

The forward is facing a potential spell on the sidelines after suffering a recurrence of a hamstring problem while on Senegal duty.

"Mane injured again? F*** off international duty! I hate them!" one supporter wrote on Twitter.

"So Mane is injured now also, brilliant," another quipped sarcastically.

"Really hope Mane will be clear for Saturday," a third fan added.

Firmino on Coutinho partnership

06.45: Roberto Firmino says his partnership with Philippe Coutinho is beneficial for Liverpool and Brazil.

"It helps having Coutinho with me," Firmino told The Independent. "He's a 'differential' who helps swing games.

"The fact we're together day to day at Liverpool means we have a good understanding, so we can use that in Brazil games.

"Coutinho is a friend and also a great player.

"He's got incredible passing ability; he knows how to put attackers in on goal."
