Alan Pardew backed in to become West Bromwich Albion manager after Tony Pulis departure

Alan Pardew has been backed in to take over at Premier League strugglers West Bromwich Albion.

The Baggies fired Tony Pulis on Monday after three years in charge following a run of 11 games without a win in all competitions, with Gary Megson taking temporary charge of the club.

As such, West Brom now sit just a single point above the relegation zone and have reportedly eyed Pardew as Pulis’ replacement as they look to stay in the top flight for another season.

The former Newcastle United manager is a heavy 1/4 (1.25) favourite with Paddy Power to return to management after nearly a year out of the business since being fired by Crystal Palace last December, with his odds being as long as 16/1 (17.0) on Tuesday.

Pardew was the first manager to take over a Premier League club in the relegation zone and eventually guide them to a top half finish which he achieved with the Eagles, and although West Brom are not quite in the bottom three, a top half finish would mark their best Premier League return since 2013 when they finished eighth.

Republic of Ireland manger Martin O’Neill is available at 6/1 (7.0) to take over at the Hawthorns and could look for a return to club football following Ireland’s World Cup play-off loss to Denmark and doubts over his future in charge of the national side.

Sam Allardyce – who has also been linked to the vacant USA job – can be backed at 7/1 (8.0), whilst highly-rated Aberdeen manager Derek McInnes is priced at 8/1 (9.0).

Michael O’Neill, who is being linked with the Scotland job, is quoted by Paddy Power at 10/1 (11.0), and is still mulling over his options after being offered a four-year extension at Northern Ireland.

A whole host of managers can be backed at 25/1 (26.0) including Megson, who will be settled as a winner if he takes charge of 10 consecutive matches, regardless of whether he is officially named as manager.
