Betting: Lukaku now 2/1 favourite for the Premier League Golden Boot

Romelu Lukaku was a popular pre-season bet for the Premier League's top scorer prize and the star has already netted three times in Manchester United's opening two matches.

Tougher tests await than West Ham and Swansea of course, but the free-flowing United attack looks in stark contrast to the reserved and often frustrating displays of last season. The goals have been shared out within United's frontline so far, but the amount of chances Lukaku is likely to get with Paul Pogba, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Juan Mata behind him will mean his antepost backers are sitting very comfortably indeed.

The 25-year-old is now 2/1 (3.0) to outscore his top-flight rivals, while Harry Kane is out to 4/1 (5.0) with dabblebet. The Tottenham frontman has so far failed to find the back of the net, but a slow start isn't out of the ordinary for the England striker, who has yet to score a league goal in the month of August, but has often finished the campaign in sparkling fashion.

Manchester City pair Sergio Aguero (6/1) and Gabriel Jesus (9/1) have both started up front in the two matches thus far, but that could change after looking less than fluid against Everton in a 1-1 draw at the Etihad.

Alexandre Lacazette's goal against Leicester City, the first of the new campaign, means he's an 8/1 (9.0) shot in the top scorer market just ahead of fellow new signing Alvaro Morata (9/1) who has got one in his opening two matches for Chelsea.

Sadio Mane (18/1) has scored in both Liverpool's league games thus far and is now shorter than a raft of 25/1 (26.0) contenders including the absent Alexis Sanchez, Jamie Vardy and team-mate Roberto Firmino.

Backing a Reds player in this market is tricky though, with Jurgen Klopp likely to rotate his frontline in order to accommodate the wealth of attacking talent he has at his disposal. With that in mind, Daniel Sturridge is probably best avoided even at 40/1 (41.0) given his patchy injury record.

That price of 25/1 (26.0) on Sanchez could be of interest if the Chile international gets his desired move to Manchester before the month is out, although Arsene Wenger is determined to hold onto his star man, even if it means losing him for nothing next summer.

Like several high-profile transfer targets, Sanchez has yet to play this season, and with an international break looming large, it could pay to wait until their futures are more clear before getting involved.

Wayne Rooney's credentials we're viewed with scepticism by the bookmakers but the 31-year-old, who became the second player to reach 200 Premier League goals on Monday, is now a 33/1 (34.0) shot to rival those at the top of the scoring charts after back-to-back goals for Everton. The same price is available on Liverpool's Mo Salah.

Jermain Defoe has netted 15 goals in each of the past two Premier League seasons but is out to 50/1 (51.0) after an injury-hit start to the season back at Bournemouth.
