'PSG continue to cheat' - La Liga chief Tebas hits out at Man City and Ligue 1 heavyweights

Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester City have been accused of cheating by Javier Tebas, with the La Liga president seeking Champions League expulsion if Financial Fair Play rules have been breached.

The Ligue 1 and Premier League heavyweights continue to benefit from the presence of billionaire backers, with PSG bankrolled by Qatar Sports Investments and City owned by Sheikh Mansour.

Both clubs have spent heavily in recent transfer markets, with big money splashed out on the likes of Neymar, Kylian Mbappe, Bernardo Silva, Kyle Walker and Benjamin Mendy.

Tebas has regularly aired his displeasure at what he considers to be “financial doping”, with English clubs considered to be “peeing in the swimming pool” while PSG push the boundaries of acceptable sporting behaviour.

In his latest outburst, the La Liga chief told L’Equipe: “We see that PSG and Manchester City, over the last five years, are the clubs that have invested the most in the purchase of players.

“Since their real incomes do not allow them to make such investments, they have invented fictitious, state-linked sponsors with amounts that do not match market prices.

“We compared the income of PSG and City with those of Real Madrid, Barca, Manchester United and Bayern. They are superior.

“At PSG, sponsorship revenues are tied to Qatar, directly or indirectly, and are superior to those of Manchester United. PSG continues to cheat economically.”

PSG have already been the subject of an investigation by UEFA regarding their transfer dealings, and Tebas wants to see any club that has broken FFP regulations kicked out of European competition.

He added: “They must not be allowed to compete.

“If, during the season, you realise that they cheated economically, why not exclude them? When a cyclist is convicted of doping, he is immediately excluded from the race.

“I also think controls should take place before the start of the competition, not after. Otherwise, the damage is done.”

PSG and City are back in Champions League action this week, with Unai Emery’s side playing host to Anderlecht on Tuesday, before Pep Guardiola’s Premier League leaders travel to Napoli on Wednesday.
