Swansea City’s Jordan Ayew on target in Newcastle United stalemate

Jordan Ayew found the back of the net as Swansea City were held to a 1-1 draw by Newcastle United in Saturday’s Premier League meeting.

After a goalless first half,  Ayew’s header in the 60th minute opened the scoring at the St. James’ Park - his third goal in last five top-flight appearances.

Eight minutes later, Joselu who was introduced for Dwight Gayle in the 64th minute fired past Lukasz Fabianski to earn the Magpies a share of the spoils.

WIlfried Bony was on the verge of securing a late win for the Liberty Stadium outfit but his 93rd minute strike was cleared off the line.

Compatriot Christian Atsu played for the entire duration of the tie as Newcastle United stay three points clear off the relegation zone.

Swansea City, unmoved at the bottom of the Premier League table with 17 points from 23 games, welcome Liverpool to the Liberty Stadium for their next league game on January 22.
