Antonio Conte starts his Premier League defence on the back of a disappointing Community Shield loss to Arsenal. With the absence of star men Eden Hazard and Diego Costa, Conte’s side have struggled to turn up this pre-season.

Michy Batshuayi will be hoping to prove his worth to the Italian and can expect to start against Burnley on Saturday having enjoyed a respectable offseason.

Victor Moses also won’t be available thanks to the suspension he picked up at Arsenal last season, so Conte will be keen to give new signing Antonio Rudiger a Premier League debut with Cesar Azpilicueta likely to be pushed to right-back.

As for Burnley, they'll want to make a strong start with their season but will certainly have wished for easier opening opponents. Sean Dyche will be hoping to improve on last season’s away record, which saw one win from 19, but Stamford Bridge might not be the place to get their first win on the road this season.

What time does it start and where can I watch it?

Reigning champions Chelsea kickstart their season at home to Burnley on Saturday 12 August. The game at Stamford Bridge kicks off at 15:00. The game won’t be broadcast on TV but fans can watch it on BBC One’s Match of the Day at 22:30 the same day.

It’s a big game for…

Antonio Conte. The last two managers to have won the Premier League have both been sacked the next season. With the loss of Nemanja Matic and both Tiemoue Bakayoko and Hazard unable to play, Conte will be forced to make some changes to his starting XI.

Remember when…

Robbie Brady’s peach of a free kick clinched Burnley a point last season. What a goal.

Player to watch…

Michy Batshuayi. The striker has had a decent pre-season, bagging two goals against Arsenal and putting in strong performances all round. Batshuayi was out of favour in his first season at Chelsea, but with the absence of Costa he will be keen to show the manager why he deserves a place in the starting XI.
