David Unsworth has confirmed that Cuco Martina has been given the ‘all clear’ after being hospitalised following a heavy fall in Everton’s 3-0 defeat by Lyon last night.

The defender fell awkwardly from an aerial challenge with Maxwell Cornet in the first half of Everton’s Europa League clash before receiving several minutes of on-pitch treatment.

Martina was subsequently stretched off and taken to hospital, with local media reports suggesting he had been unable to feel his legs.

But Unsworth dismissed such speculation on the night and earlier today confirmed that the 28-year-old’s medical results had “all come back clear”.

"He’s fine, he’s had his X-rays and his scans and they have all come back clear,” Unsworth said in his Friday press conference.

"He was a little bit dizzy concussed and very tired on the plane on the way home but he’s fine and he managed to travel home with us he’ll be out for a couple of weeks now as a precaution.

"All the doctors and medics looked after him really well and we are thankful for that."

News of Martina’s good health will come as some consolation for a club that was knocked out of the Europa League having picked up just one point from four games.

Everton travel to Watford on Sunday for a Premier League clash caretaker Unsworth has described as a “cup final” that is "huge" both for him individually and the Toffees as a whole.
