Jurgen Klopp has criticised Sky Sports for their recent proposal to switch Liverpool’s clash with Arsenal to Christmas Eve.

Liverpool’s trip to the Emirates on Saturday 23 December could be pushed back by one day under the broadcasters’ revised festive schedule, which will be announced next month.

The Anfield club are aware of the proposal, which is currently under discussion by the Premier League who holds final say on the matter, and have voiced a strong opposition to the schedule change.

Liverpool supporters’ union Spirit of Shankly has accused Sky of showing “zero regard for supporters” while Klopp has similarly expressed his contempt for the plan.

“If the supporters want to see a game at Christmas Eve then the television broadcaster will find a way,” the Liverpool boss said in his Friday press conference.

“What I have learned is that if there is something not too cool involving fixtures, Liverpool are involved.

“The broadcaster has to consider the wonderful thing they sell depends on the players. On the quality, freshness of the players.”

If the proposal is given the green light, Liverpool can expect to play four games over a nine-day period. The side are already scheduled to play Swansea City on Boxing Day and Leicester City on 30 December.

“It would be four games in nine days for us. If we have to play Dec 24, Sky has to make a decision whether they really want to do this.

“If Sky really want to do this, we are the last one who may have something to say about the decision.

“I really cannot imagine people want to watch football on that night.”
