Gareth Barry matches Ryan Giggs record in West Brom's bore draw with West Ham

Gareth Barry matched a Premier League record on Saturday

Gareth Barry equalled Ryan Giggs' Premier League appearance record as he started West Brom's 0-0 draw against West Ham on Saturday.

Here, Press Association Sport looks at how the midfielder fared at The Hawthorns on his 632nd appearance in the top division.

COMPOSURE

It was a rough and ready opening to the game with West Ham and West Brom failing to keep the ball well enough. Barry had received a record 120 yellow cards in his Premier League career but did not look like adding to that tally on Saturday even during a combative game.

TEAMWORK

There is never any doubting the midfielder's work ethic for his side, with so much of what he does going unnoticed. It was another hard-working shift for, almost, little reward as the Baggies and Hammers played out a bore draw.

INFLUENCE

It was difficult for the midfielder to impact a scrappy first half as the ball continued to bypass the midfield, with Barry close to developing a neck problem as he looked skywards. He did direct an early header over but the Baggies struggled to make inroads with both sides striving to take a grip of the game.

OVERALL

Barry will surely surpass Giggs' record - whether it comes at Arsenal on September 25 or not - and to equal it is a fabulous achievement. It was not a game he will remember for the performance or result but the former England international deserves to go down in the record books, even if the game does not.
